Measure A
for Palo Alto Unified School District |
|
Measure A is a school facilities bond measure on the June 3, 2008 ballot. Measure A will raise $378 million to construct new classrooms, renovate aging facilities, and provide an outstanding learning environment for all PAUSD students.
The Palo Alto schools community has a long history of valuing education and public schools. However, our school facilities receive little funding from the state. Communities typically pass bonds to finance school improvement, and that’s what Measure A is all about!
The Strong Schools for a Strong Community bond will have a major positive impact on Palo Alto community schools! Overcrowding, aging portables, and cramped facilities make it difficult to deliver the top-rated education for which Palo Alto schools are known. Measure A will address these issues and create facilities worthy of the promise and talents of our students.
To provide safe and modern schools; accommodate enrollment growth; upgrade aging classrooms, libraries, computer and science labs; repair or replace roofs, plumbing, heating, ventilation and electrical systems; improve fire alarms and school security; meet current earthquake standards; provide current technology; and replace old portables with permanent classrooms, Palo Alto Unified School District shall issue $378 million in bonds at legal interest rates, with mandatory audits, independent oversight and bond tax rates estimated not to exceed the current rate.
We say yes!
